Blended Learning For First Aid

Blended learning enables learners to complete first aid training using a mixture of traditional face-to-face (practical) sessions, and self-paced online learning.

This means that subjects such as resuscitation, bandaging, choking and casualty management are always delivered and practiced in the classroom, whereas more theory-based subjects such as the responsibilities of first aiders, accident reporting and risk assessment can be studied independently.

What are the benefits?

There are numerous benefits associated with blended learning. They include…

  • Reduced classroom time – making planning training and releasing staff to attend easier. Our blended Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) courses can be taken in a half day or twilight session (vs a full day face-to-face), First Aid at Work (FAW) courses can be taken in two days (vs three days face-to-face), and Paediatric First Aid courses can be taken in one day (vs two days face-to-face).
  • Self-paced study – learners can complete the online modules at a time, and pace, that suits them. They can fit study around existing commitments and revisit modules at any point. They also have continued access to material for 90 days following completion of the face-to-face session(s).
  • Cost-effectiveness – the fees for in-house blended courses are typically lower than fully face-to-face courses. There are also savings associated with staff cover by enabling learners to study the online modules independently.

How does it work?

The first part of our blended courses involves learners accessing our high-quality eHub learning platform, where they will work through a series of online modules featuring written, video and interactive content. This can be undertaken at any time to suit their schedule, and can be paused and resumed as necessary. Upon completion, they will be issued with a certificate and be able to attend the face-to-face sessions(s).

The second part of the training involves a face-to-face (classroom) course. During this session(s), learners will be assessed on the learning that they have completed online, as well as working through additional practical and simulation modules.

Upon completion of both elements and subject to assessment, learners will be issued with the same first aid certificate that they would had they attended a fully face-to-face course.

How long does it take to complete a course?

The total time required to complete a course, whether fully face-to-face or via blended learning, remains the same. Blended learning however enables learners to complete the online modules at a time and pace that suits them, and the amount of classroom time can be significantly reduced…

  • Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) courses can be delivered via a half-day face-to-face session plus self-paced online study (vs a full day via traditional face-to-face training). The maximum time taken to complete the online and face-to-face learning cannot exceed four weeks / 28 days.
  • First Aid at Work (FAW) courses can be delivered via two days face-to-face training plus self-paced online study (vs three days via traditional face-to-face training). The maximum time taken to complete the online and face-to-face learning cannot exceed 10 weeks / 70 days.
  • First Aid at Work (FAW) Requalification courses can be delivered via one day face-to-face training plus self-paced online study (vs two days via traditional face-to-face training). The maximum time taken to complete the online and face-to-face learning cannot exceed seven weeks / 49 days.

What are the fees for blended learning courses?

Our fees for in-house blended learning courses include tuition (face-to-face sessions and access to our eHub learning platform), assessment, certification and resources including a printed first aid handbook…
